International Standardized Tests & Test Prep
In line with our mission to fully prepare students for international college level education and opportunities abroad, WIA offers a full-service suite of internationally recognized standardized testing services including test prep and facilitation or administration of standardized tests at our testing sites or partner facilities. Current international tests that we provide full services for are as follows:
GED
Students who pass the GED (General Educational Development) examination are issued the equivalent of an American high school diploma, issued from Washington, DC. WIA offers GED testing and test prep as one of several viable solutions for high school completion and fast track for admission to an English-speaking university for capable students. The GED diploma is accepted by 97% of universities in the US, by many international universities worldwide and also by local universities with international programs.
The GED exam is comprised of four subjects:
- Math
- Language Arts
- Science
- Social Studies
Students may prepare for and take just one subject at a time and may retake any subject for which they do not achieve a passing score. Students who score above a certain level in any subject also get a “college readiness” marker on their transcript, which makes an even more impressive college application. If the score in any subject is also above another level, the student is awarded ACE-approved college credit. Hence, the GED exam not only allows students to finish high school early, but they also get a head start on college!
- Passing score = 145/200
- Passing all four subjects = GED diploma + transcripts with scores
- Score of 165+/200 in any subject = “College readiness” flag on transcript
- Score of 175+/200 in any subject = college credit
The GED diploma is a respectable credential especially for Chinese students and other students whose first language is not English, as it demonstrates English proficiency and serves as a standardized high school competency assessment which is accepted by and familiar to US universities.
For students interested in this route for high school completion, WIA first screens each student with a practice GED test to determine if the GED is suitable for them. Next, we make a customized study plan focusing on subjects and topics that need improvement as well as helping students to achieve the highest possible score (ideally the “college readiness” score). Finally, we administer or facilitate the actual administration of the GED test from within China.

ACT
The ACT (American College Test) is the name of an internationally recognized standardized college entrance examination and it is also the name of the organization that offers it (ACT, Inc.). The ACT is used in the same way as the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) by universities in America and also worldwide, as a major component of their admissions criteria. Students only need to take one test, either the ACT or the SAT, for their university application. The ACT is now actually more widely used than the SAT in college admissions.

IELTS
The IELTS (International English Testing System) exam is the gold standard for assessment of English proficiency used by high schools, universities, and employers worldwide for students whose first language is not English. A high IELTS score opens the door for many opportunities educationally and professionally. WIA offers IELTS prep and facilitation of local IELTS testing to help students who are not native English speakers achieve their long term goals for international education and professional opportunities.

MAP
MAP (Measure of Academic Progress), created by the NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association), is an adaptive computer-based assessment of a student’s academic progress in grades K-12. It is widely used for assessment of student progress in IB curriculum K-12 schools and many international schools in China and around the world. In affiliation with our partner K-12 international school FLIS (Fuzhou Lakeside International School), we offer MAP testing for standardized assessment of K-12 academic progress to individuals and schools.

Oxford Test of English
WIA, in association with our K-12 sister school FLIS, is also proud to administer the internationally recognized Oxford Test of English, which is the only language proficiency test certified by the University of Oxford (United Kingdom). It is recognized by hundreds of universities and academic institutions worldwide.
